Shadowing Rhythm
Now that you’ve learned how to attend to the rhythmic/syllabic layer of speech, our next task is to apply this mode of attention to a normal context.
”Shadowing” is the act of mimicking while simultaneously listening. We can shadow externally with our bodies, or purely internally with the auditory memory in our mind.
For this exercise, you are going to listen to native speech while shadowing the syllable rhythm in your mind.
First you’ll start with slow audio (.25 or .50 speed), then as you get more comfortable, you will increase the speed in accordance with your Flow Channel. At faster speeds, you should find this exercise to be rather energy intensive, and thus not something you can do for too long before taking a break.
Our main goal is to habituate your mind to this mode of attention, such that you spontaneously do it whenever you hear the language. This change in your listening habit should afford you a substantial boost in listening comprehension in a relatively short period of time.

.Shadowing Melody
For this exercise, use youtube videos to practice shadowing the melody in your mind. The same way we did earlier with the syllable rhythm.
