The first type of segmenting you’ll practice is melody segmenting. Like before, you will first focus your attention on the up and down movement of the pitch across the phrase and echo the pattern at the level of the whole.
Then once you have the full melody, you will segment the phrase into separate syllable-notes. As you do this, you will notice that you will feel less certain about your perception of certain notes. This is most likely to occur in the middle of the phrase, as that is when we are typically least attentive.
For each note you come up with, return to the native audio and check if its right using the scanning technique. Once you feel you have a grip on each note, then put it back together into the whole, and you should notice a higher accuracy whole.
