To make sense and make things happen in the world, our left brain separates and categorizes experiences. When these categories are appropriately mapped, this allows us to get a grip on the world. To learn a new language, we need to categorize the motor-sensory experience components of speech, and how to navigate the conceptual space of phrases, syllables and phonemes. This is what segmenting is all about. In this video, I talk about Categories in depth and how it’s relevant to our learning endeavor.
