Now that you’re comfortable segmenting words into syllables, the next task is to segment syllables into phonemes. This will not only improve your phonological awareness of phonemes, it will also improve your brain’s ability to perceive and remember new words by ear.
To facilitate this process, you are going to use your fingers in a very specific way to keep track of the segments. I explain this process in the video below. Then for the practice videos, watch the speaker, and pause to attempt the segmenting before you hear the answer.
