This technique develops your capacity to direct your attention through time. It also opens up your mind to perceive details of your target language that you may have been deaf to before.
The audio below is slowed down 50% and looped repeatedly. Starting with the first syllable, selectively attend to just one syllable at a time, and try to “savor” the syllable by noticing new details in each repetition. If you do this correct, you should notice details about the phrase that were not apparent to you at first.
When you feel like you have an intimate feel of a syllable, move your attention to the second syllable and repeat the process. Keep doing this until you savored each syllable of a phrase, in the same way that a gourmet savors each bite of his meal.
